UKS2 - Resilience Talks with Danyl Johnson
Danyl Johnson visited our school on 24th November 2022 and spoke to our Year 5 and Year 6 children about resilience.
The children wrote the following about his visit and What they did with him.
Danyl Johnson was really interesting. When we first came in he made us get into two different groups – on one side were the people who felt positive and on the other were the ones who felt negative. Some people weren’t sure which group they should be in as they didn’t feel either. Danyl told us that it is ok to not feel either and we could stay in the middle if we liked as sometimes it is easier to move from the middle than it is to go from completely negative to positive. He then asked us to take 20 small steps and see how far we moved. Some people took move further than others. Danyl again said this was ok as they were being individuals and it is good to be different and not part of the crowd. He explained that it is good to take small steps as we will all get to our goal in our own time.
After this he asked us to write down 3 people we loved and 3 we liked. He asked if we had put ourselves in our list. Some people had, others hadn’t. He said we should put ourselves in the list as how could we expect other people to like/love us if we didn’t like ourselves. He said it is important to celebrate our strengths. He asked us to write down a goal for next year and then ways we could achieve it. He said to reassess this goal every month as we could only achieve it, if we took little steps.
Lastly, he asked us whether we had ever been bullied or whether we had every bullied anyone. He said that to stop bullying we had to look at ourselves as sometimes people become bullies because they have been bullied so it is a feeling of power. He said if we all looked at ourselves, we could stop bullying!
