The children enjoyed a range of activities to celebrate World Book Day this year. These took place throughout the week with the aim of encouraging children to read, and share their love for reading with each other.

 

Classroom Door Decorations

As part of World Book Day, the children were involved in decorating their classrooms. In KS1, the classes voted on a book cover to redecorate their classroom doors, with the children making the decorations, to go on their doors. In LKS2, the children made drawings of their favourite books, which were then displayed on their classroom doors.

Author/ Illustrator Visit

As part of World Book Day, we also had author/ illustrator Simon Murray, visit the school to speak with the children. He ran literacy and illustration workshops for each class based on the character from his book, Icky Doo Dah. The children had lots of fun trying their hands at illustrating a fictional character of their own and gaining useful tips from Mr. Murray.

 

Masked Readers

The staff at school filmed themselves reading extracts from books or poems in disguise. These were played to the children on World Book Day, for them to guess the reader. The children had loads of fun trying to guess the readers, with some of the readers filming from secret locations and using voice-altering technology to add to the fun.

 

Dressing up

On World Book day, our children dressed up as their favourite fictional characters. Many children completed book reviews of their favourite books and shared them with their classmates. KS1 also did a costume parade in the playground!

 

Share a Story

One of the activities that the children took part in was ‘Share a Story’, where the juniors had a chance to read to/with the infants. Each child had a partner to read with, with most of the classes enjoying this in the copse this year. A lot of the children shared stories they had written themselves!
